REVIEW: Myethos Danganronpa Celestia Ludenberg
Picture-heavy review.
Welcome to yet another review :) This time, my review focuses on the third Myethos figure in my ownership, the first being and second .
This figure was released last year, April 2018 and features a character from the first Danganropa - Celestia Ludenberg.
In all honesty, I never planned to get this figure. Yes, I thought she was a pretty figure but I am not familiar with the character nor the game/series Danganropa and she was rare and very expensive - so I never kept a lookout or placed her on my wishlist. Somehow though, I happened to come across the figure brand-new going for a decent price, and decided to purchase her mainly for the beautiful one-of-a-kind aesthetics that almost always comes with Myethos figures.
Celestia's design definitely caught my eye when I first saw the figure some time ago, despite it being Gothic in nature (a concept pretty much overused in many series). For me, it's definitely the impossible drill twintails that made her stand out XD
She arrived a week from my purchase date and it was pretty exciting to get home and unbox her after work. I was rather apprehensive at first, having received a paint defect with my last Megahouse G.E.M Sasuke figure, and then a dented box with the prior Saekano Aniplex Eriri figure (and both were brand-new figures). I was just convinced something would happen to screw this one up.
The figure turned out near flawless, the box not so much - but I didn't care very much for the box in the first place because the design didn't really wow me. So I am really quite satisfied with this purchase, and now enough about the rambling, we will move on to the review!
THE BOX: 8/10
THE PACKAGING: 9/10
The box colour is glossy yellow foil against black, and it gives off a pretty sleek and mysterious feel. The design comes off slightly plain to me, though my ignorance of the Danganropa realm may factor into this. The front of the box has a nice large window displaying the figure, lined with the same neat yellow foil and the Japanese kanji and English words of Celestia's name. Her English name was spelled Celestia Ludenberck on the box, following the original romanized version of the Japanese spelling.
The back of the box has a nice illustration of a roulette wheel (in keeping with Celestia's nature as the Ultimate Gambler) and similar yellow foil text. The background has the four playing card suits, also in keeping with the figure's theme.
My box was slightly beaten up over the front, back and down one side, but surprisingly it did not bother me much.
One thing I love about Myethos boxes is that they never feature images of the figure, which I really like and personally feel that these type of boxes look classier as a result. The two sides of Celestia's box have a single butterfly (similar to the design on her tie) and her spherical-cross earring down each side respectively, both glossy patterns are done very nicely.
The top flap of the box has the shiny yellow Academy crest, and I thought this part was also done very nicely.
The packaging is very secure (I did not take pictures) - it has three plastic shells - one lower shell encasing the figure and base, another is a thin layer to cover the lower plastic shell and the third is a bigger shell to cover everything up. They also have plastic sheets wrapped around the more fragile portions of the figure such as the hair and ribbons of the bonnet, and a hard plastic to protect the magnetized portion of the roulette turret.
Celestia's figure did not come with any artwork card, but we get a manual on how to put her together (which I chucked aside and did not use XD).
THE BASE: 10/10
This is definitely one of the more unique bases I have seen (and another reason why I love this company so). The base is in the shape of a traditional roulette wheel, and is made up of two parts - the wheel and the turret. The wheel definitely has substantial weight to it but when laid flat, it can actually be turned like a turntable (picture-taking made easy ;D). The roulette is very well-detailed and painted, I love the striking colours and they even sculpted the ball pockets perfectly.
The turret is gold in colour, and the upper part is magnetized to Celestia's bottom so the figure sits nicely on the turret without need for support. I thought this was a fantastic touch and allows for such a beautiful base without ugly pegs or plastic poles.
The lower part is hollowed out to fit into the roulette wheel base.
The complete roulette wheel base is beautiful, very nicely detailed and coloured. I found no defects on mine. I think this roulette would even have been playable like a real one, if not for the absence of the numbers on the wheel. XD
THE SCULPT: 9/10
THE PAINT: 9/10
Celestia's figure comes in one piece - there are no removable parts or additional accessories. She is slightly bigger than a standard 1/8 scale, despite being advertised as such.
I love the sculpt and paint of Celestia's face, they did her red eyes and mouth very nicely. I like that the red of her eyes is not overbearing but it manages just enough to give her a dangerous look. Love the pointy sharp nose, and the pink shading over her lips. Her smile is painted very nicely, she looks part-beautiful human, part-evil demoness.
Her hair sculpt is fantastic, the strands are done very nicely for her fringe and down the sides of her face. Her gold cross-spherical earrings are also detailed but they are rather hidden from view by her hair.
I personally feel like there are many angles that her face looks best in, even the side angles look fantastic.
The white lace bonnet over her head is nicely detailed with many folds and there are hints of purple shading on the lace. The side hair strands and bonnet ribbons are fragile so do exercise caution meddling around those areas.
I definitely love her hair. The drill twintails are very detailed, the curls are countless and endless.
Celestia's outfit is a Gothic lolita dress, and nothing was spared for the design. Her dress is very detailed - from the frills of her blouse and sleeves down to the skirt. The lace, similar to her bonnet, is shaded with hints of purple on the white. The skirt is voluminous and coloured a lighter shade than the coat. The only inconsistency in this figure is probably the purple paint over the flower-patterned lace, some of which are lighter and others darker.
The silver armour ring over Celestia's right index finger and her black nail polish are painted nicely. The card face up in her hand is the Joker card with Monokuma's face.
Her high stockings are glossy, and even have lace and black little ribbons. The skirt underneath is shaded light purple, even though we don't see this when she is displayed. Her panties are black (spoiler photo below) and her bottom and upper thighs are magnetized corresponding to the roulette turret. The thighs are flat and sit very nicely on the turret without instability or unevenness.
Her glossy red shoes are very prettily painted (like White Rabbit's shoes) with silver buckles. The left shoe touches the side of the roulette wheel nicely.

THE POSE: 9/10
I love the pose as she sits prettily on the roulette, a symbol of her ultimate skill. It is an elegant pose and she is completely in element with her cards in hand. Random fact, but I actually like turning her slowly around on the roulette wheel XD
I love that this figure looks fabulous at almost every angle.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Despite not knowing the character, I made the decision to purchase Celestia and I do not regret that decision - she is gorgeous. I am actually a little picky with figures featuring characters I am unfamiliar with - Myethos has a Judith and a Gilgamesh figure up for preorder but I decided to forgo both - the Judith because I did not like the overly glossy sheen on the dress and the way the skirt comically goes up on one end. The Gilgamesh figure is a little harder to ignore - I love the base, powerful design, the character is sexy and I have actually watched several scenes featuring him XD But I figured if I started on Fate figures, there would be no end. Period. XD
So back to Celestia Ludenberg, I adore the sculpt and details of this figure very much (the latest White Rabbit figure still had me slightly disappointed over the somewhat flat face) - I love Celestia's sharp beautiful facial features, the hair and the fancy Gothic dress. The base design is a creative representation of the character's skill and the magnet support is a nice touch. My enjoyment of this figure would have been much greater had I been familiar with the character or series, but that didn't stop me from thoroughly enjoying this figure's aesthetics.
She would be great to display together with fellow Danganropa figures - I don't own any but I have seen several great figures such as and . Gambling or casino-themed figures would likewise be great to display with Celestia, I do not know why but my mind jumped to .
I would rate this figure 9.0 out of 10.
PROS
- Gorgeous sculpt of face and dress
- Beautiful, unique base (which also turns! XD)
- If you like big figures, she's larger than a standard 1/8, I would say.
CONS
- May be pricey in the aftermarket
- Rare find
- Somewhat plain box
