Files

The File menu contains both basic and advanced options for managing your game and setting up Studio.

An RBXL file contains a location that defines a 3D world in Roblox, an online multiplayer building game. It stores information that describes the playing field, which consists of 3D models (.RBXM files), parts, tools, scripts, and teams.RBXL files can be created and opened with Roblox Studio.

File Menu Options

NewOpens an empty place (baseplate).
Open from File...Opens a saved place from a local file. If you already have a place open, the chosen place will open in a new Studio window.
Open from Roblox...Opens a saved place from the cloud. If you already have a place open, the chosen place will open in a new Studio window.
Close FileCloses the place you currently have open.
Save to FileSaves the place to a local file on your computer.
Save to File As...Lets you save the place to a new local file on your computer.
Save to RobloxSaves the place to the cloud.
Publish to RobloxPublishes the place to Roblox.
Publish to Roblox As...Publishes the place to Roblox using a new slot (or overwrites an existing slot).
AdvancedAdvanced publishing, export, and file options including:
  • Open Recent Saves — Opens a file window showing the most recent saves.
  • Publish Whole Game — Publishes the entire game (all of its places) to Roblox.
  • Export as Obj — Export current place as an OBJ file.
  • Customize Shortcuts — Customize Studio shortcuts.
  • Manage Plugins — Find new /articles/Intro to Plugins|plugins published to Roblox and enable/disable installed plugins.
About Roblox StudioShows a dialog including the specific version of Studio.
Online Help...A quick shortcut to these Studio overview pages.
Settings...Opens a window containing all of the Studio setup and customization options.
Beta FeaturesLets you test new Studio features before they are officially released.
